Get a Jump on Your Spring Garden

   If you grow your veggies in containers, you’ll have better luck with bush varieties of peas. Even those do better with a little support. I plant mine around the outside of a tomato cage, and help them catch on to the bottom rung as soon as they start growing. Then, when the peas are about done producing (they’re cool-season plants, remember), it’s time to add a tomato plant inside the cage. A small trellis would also work. Or several long sturdy twigs from nearby trees. If you have the luxury of a full garden space, you can grow the vining types, but they too will also need some kind of support. The bonus here is that the vining types will give you more peas over a longer span of time.
