Unless you like to make your own curry mixture, I’m betting you won’t find many recipes calling for turmeric. But if you have some in your pantry, here’s a fun thing to do with it. Add a large pinch (about 1/4 teaspoon or so) to the water in which you cook rice or noodles, and watch them turn a beautiful yellow color. Kids will think spaghetti with yellow noodles is extra-fun. I always put some in the rice water when I’m making red beans and rice; I really like the color combination. The turmeric adds a hint of spicy smokiness to the taste, but mostly this is all about color, and fun.
